Genre – Horror/Thriller
Thrillers often overlap with mystery stories, but are distinguished by the structure of their plots. In a thriller, the hero must thwart the plans of an enemy, rather than uncover a crime that has already happened. Thrillers also occur on a much grander scale: the crimes that must be prevented are serial or mass murder, terrorism, assassination, or the overthrow of governments.
Flims that relate to Horror and Thriller
Sir Alfred Joseph Hitchcock was know for making outragous films such as Psycho. The reason for this is that there is shocking killings. Also when Jos and I watched this film we felt the use of the music, almost made your mind run away, and import different images in your head. The person in the film looks like a normal guy, and doesn’t look like he is capable to hurt anyone. In the film it also doesn’t show everything, such as the person getting murdered, this is good because it leaves more to the imagenation.
Another film we watch, and wanted to take some of there ideas and put into our film was, what lies beneath, the genre of the film is horror, mystery and thriller. The whole concept of the film is very simple but affective at the same time. The film also has a number didn’t camera angles.

Preliminary Task - Evaluation
For my preliminary task, we were asked to get in groups. I decide to work with Jos, as I wanted to work with someone I don’t normally work with, and felt that I could work with him and form and new friendship at the same time while creating our preliminary task.
The preliminary task was based around some key aspects, like making sure we use different camera angles and shots; such as Match On Action, Reverse Shot, 180-Degree and trying to put Mise-en-Scene in our short film chip. We also had to include, someone approaching the door, opening the door, the person entering the door, sitting opposite someone and having a conversation with them.
Jos and I decided to create a storyboard. This would show what camera angles we attempt going to use and would show who will be in the shot. Instead of drawing pictures of what the shots will look like, we decided to take pictures of what each shot will look like. We chose to do are filming in the common room, we also decided to use Kiran as our person to push and walk through the door. I would be the person sitting opposite her and having a conversation with her. Jos would be doing the filming.
After we don’t the storyboard we decided to start filming, but I was organised, and didn’t have a DV tape to record on. When we did final get a DV tape, we finished recording. But when looking over the video clips, we felt it wasn’t good enough, to even be given a grade. So we chose to redo our film, to make it easier, we used Kiran’s camera, as it was a digital camera and was able to delete clips we didn’t want, which didn’t take too long. Unfortunately when we, did try and connect the camera to the macs, ‘it was able to talk to the macs’. So we couldn’t edit our film, and was unable to see our final piece.
Over all I feel that the preliminary task did not go as well as I would of hoped. Our storyboard does not follow our film. As we had to re-do our filmng as we felt it didn’t have enough camera angles. I also felt that we wasn’t using our time wisely, as all tighter it took about a week to do all our filming, and other groups, took up less time, and did their filming in less than three days. Wehn looking at some of the video clips, the camera was a bit shaky, due to not using a camera stand. Also because the film would not upload on the school computers, this took up a lot of time. But we have the copy of the film on Kiran’s computer.
Doing the preliminary task has made me aware of what I have to do for our main film. Also it shows me that I need to be more organised, and more prepared for the next task.
